Afghanistan veteran from Lowell charged in assault on his 2-month-old son

A 2-month-old boy who was found unconscious in his Mammoth Road home Saturday afternoon is in critical condition in a Boston trauma center, and his 22-year-old father, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, is being held without bail.
